Families seeking identity and a connection to the past take heraldic emblems from [assumed] ancestors when such can be found and assign the emblems to their ancestors' surnames, and thus to the families bearing said surnames. Heraldic traditionalists cite that such a heraldry of surnames violates traditional rules of heraldic inheritance, but such objection entirely ignores the need for group identity formation in psychological development. We encourage the assumption of familial heraldry for the health of the family's collective psyche, but rather than possibly misappropriate the entire coat-of-arms of a misidentified ancestor, our solution for contributing to the identity formation of members of our clan was to create our own original familial emblem, while still incorporating elements of our ancestors' heraldry.

Symbolism of Our Heraldic Charges

Moon as "escutcheon" (scudo rotondo) = Canting of our surname, Lunin [as it happens to also be a Slovenian word for "Moon"]

Borromean crescents + three aumkara = Evolution (via Tridevi). (Referencing the civic heraldry of the ville of Bréval, our Borromean crescents also serve as tribute to the Frankish lines in our ancestry. The Borromean crescents further serve as Freya's analogue to Odin's Odhroerir symbol.)

Pegasi = Dreams (positive inversion of nightmares, both equine and oneiric). The fact that the supporters in our heraldry are equine is inspired by the heraldic Sachsenross ("Saxon steed") popular in our Saxon ancestors' heraldry. (Also, in Hindu astrology the Pegasus constellation is regarded as the resting place of the Moon.)

Swords = Piercing through veils of deception, targeting truth. (Note that the swords are positioned "cerebrally" to suggest unicorn horns.) (Further, up-turned crossed swords were used in the coat-of-arms of Saxony starting in the 14th century, so the similarly arranged swords in our emblem are also a nod toward our Saxon ancestry.)

Oak leaves* = The natural world which sustains us

Acorn* = Sahaja ("nature within")

Owl [clutching acorn] = Wisdom [especially the wisdom of maintaining a connection to Nature]

Keys = Unlocking mysteries. (Further, great grandfather Baisch was a self-taught locksmith; the keys pictured were his.)

Motto (AL AMO KAJ SCIO) = "Toward love and knowledge"

*(Additionally, the Baisch segment of our family tree has its roots in Pliezhausen, Germany; the civic heraldry of Pliezhausen features an acorn and two oak leaves.)

Symbolism of Our Familial Colors

Black = Mystery, and the night sky in which the Moon resides. (Additionally, one of the tartans in the Celtic portion of our family tree is solid black.)

Blue = Rarity/uniqueness, as per the term "blue moon". (Also secondarily refers to the Berlin blue pigment as a nod toward our German ancestors.)

Argent (silvery moonlight) = Illumination of mysteries. (Additionally, the escutcheon of our Austrian ancestor is sable and argent.)
