Ubuntu (Humanity)
Ubuntu (oo-BOON-too) is a word from the language of the African Xhosa tribe which translates as "humanity" or "community", though as ubuntu is a philosophy its full meaning is more expansive than its mere translation. The English language lacks a direct antonym to the word racism; human rights activist Desmond Tutu introduced the word ubuntu to the Anglosphere to emphatically serve as that missing conceptual antonym to words such as racism. As the scope of ubuntu explicitly encompasses all of humanity though, it is not conceptually antonymic to just racism, but also to sexism, homophobia, xenophobia, and any other divisive mentality as well.
The Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei of early twentieth century Germany (the "Nazi party"), espoused a notion of Germanic identity (Volksgemeinschaft) which was so hostilely xenophobic as to be outright genocidal against anyone deemed to be outside of what they regarded as the "German race". Today there are still groups who promote Germanic ancestral identity and unfortunately pollute such by perpetuating ideals of white supremacism and racism. This page exists to denounce the stupidity and ugliness which is racism, and to promote the beauty of ubuntu in our world.

If the above use of the word ubuntu is novel to you, yet the word Ubuntu is somewhat familiar to you, you are probably recalling the Ubuntu Linux operating system for computers. Linux software exists due to the generous contributions of the Linux community, so the flavor of Linux known as Ubuntu was so named to honor and reinforce the community of volunteer contributors which makes it possible, and to promote global community.
